Project #15: Captain James M. Bonneau
Capt. James M. Bonneau Sr. enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 1951. He served in Korea and 2 tours in Vietnam (1965 and 1969.) While in Vietnam, He was field combat commissioned to the rank of Captain. He retired in 1971 and returned to New Hampshire and began working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. While at the Navy yard, he worked as a painter and a crane operator. In 1983 while climbing a 100 foot ladder to his crane, James suffered his first heart attack. He medically retired from the Navy yard in 1983. He and his wife Marilyn have been married for 65 years, they have 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
